Axiom Space on Wednesday unveiled a prototype of the lunar spacesuit that NASA plans to use for its astronauts during the Artemis mission, which is scheduled to launch later this decade.
“This means a lot to us,” Axiom President and CEO Michael Suffredini said at an event at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.
“We’re excited that the next step for humans on the Moon will be wearing the Axiom spacesuit,” added Suffredini.
The company won an initial $228.5 million contract last year to design and manufacture the spacesuits it plans to use on the Artemis III mission and beyond. NASA’s Artemis program represents a series of missions with escalating goals.Agency successfully completed First, unmanned flight in December.
