Best airport in the world? Skytrax says Singapore Changi Airport


Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named World’s Best Airport for a record 12th time.

The city-state’s airport is in the “World Airport Awards 2023’ announced air transport research firm Skytrax yesterday.

Changi Airport previously topped Skytrax’s annual rankings for seven consecutive years from 2013 to 2020, but has trailed Doha’s Hamad International Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport in the past two years.

Global travelers representing more than 100 countries took part in the Skytrax survey, which also ranked Singapore Changi Airport as:

  • Best Airport in Asia
  • World’s Best Airport – Dining and
  • World’s Best Airport – Leisure Facilities.

Customers rate airports based on a number of factors, including shopping, check-in, arrivals, connecting flights, and security and immigration.

Doha’s Hamad International Airport was second, Tokyo’s Haneda Airport was third and Incheon International Airport was fourth. This year, Japan has two airports in the top 10, with Narita International Airport in ninth place.

The other top-ranked airports are Paris (fifth), Istanbul (sixth), Munich (seventh) and Zurich (eighth). All of last year’s top 10 airports reappeared, except Osaka Kansai International Airport, which was replaced by Spain’s Madrid-Barajas Airport (10th).

The Skytrax survey also ranks airports based on other metrics. Seoul Incheon International Airport won the title of “Best Airport Staff in the World”, and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in China won the title of “Best Airport Improvement in the World”.

Skytrax chief executive Edward Plaisted said the win “highlights the[s] The airport’s popularity among international air travellers” has returned to around 80% of pre-Covid 19 levels, he said.
